Successful Danish-German Collaboration Results in 80% Growth In Laundry Capacity

Testorp is a Berlin-based family-owned laundry with more than 140 years of history and tradition. The company has grown impressively and expects to continue its growth. However, some six years ago, the company realized it needed to attract new customers and the capacity had to grow.  Still, expanding the laundry within the city was impossible. So, how do you grow when you cannot expand in square metres? The company started to look internally to increase operational efficiency.

In a close collaboration with Beirholm – a provider of high performance textiles – an operational efficiency plan was formed based on three steps: deducing the company’s laundry context, using BeirTex® textile performance technologies to increase efficiency and the Beirholm’s modular design concept based on a small range of laundry-fit textiles to increase laundry capacity and bring in new customers.

Today, the company plays a competitive role in Berlin healthcare and hospitality. New and potential customers have shown great interest in their innovative design concept together with a high, personal service level. Conclusion? Together with new laundry machinery technology, the plan helped the company grow from 15 to 27 tons a day.

Connected PPE – New Ways to Check Health and Performance

Myant Inc.- a global pioneer in textile computing – has revealed design concepts for connected PPE, sensing and enabling new ways of holistically assessing health and performance.

The idea of wearing PPE developed from a reactionary preventative measure to an integral part of daily living in the post-COVID world. During that process the company began to conceive ways that a connected biometric sensing mask could integrate into the company’s broader vision for interconnected biometric garments. Since it is worn close to the nose and mouth, a mask presents an opportunity for a connected textile to collect data on emissions from the respiratory system via volatile organic compound (VOC) sensing.

Certified Laundries Have Higher Revenues In Corona Times. Get A CERCLEAN® Certification!

The Corona pandemic has brought many uncertainties, but, as underlined during the Global Best Practices Awards 2020 Event (Nov 4-5), one thing is for sure: the importance of hygienical cleaning is bigger than ever. End consumers, as well as companies became more critical when it comes to hygiene standards and guarantees, the potential contamination risks for consumers, end-users and employees. There is no wonder why the certified companies have a major competitive advantage and therefore, higher revenues. In this context, CERCLEAN® International Certification can help your business to increase its trustworthiness and professionality.

Benefits of CERCLEAN® International Certification.

1. Implementing international best practices in PTC CERCLEAN® provides a complete step by step model for the laundry manager to implement best practices on  professional laundry and dry cleaning management in a laundry facility. The program is split up between a certification  scheme for Industrial Textile Services and Retail Textile Cleaning, so the program specializes based on the business model that is applicable. The handbook and easy-to-fi ll-out forms are based on optimized work fl ow and conditions, annual training of staff, setting yearly quality objectives, handling of hazardous chemicals, proper maintenance of machinery, good housekeeping, complaint management, productivity improvement plan and an energy savings plan.

2. Proven solution & continuous development. Over 50 years ago the industrial laundries started developing certification schemes in collaboration with health care organizations and governmental bodies based in Europe on ISO 9001 and later on RABC norms (EN 14065). With a global perspective CINET is committed to spread this knowledge on best practices and continuously work on improving the know-how in the program based on new innovations coming from the industry.

3. Most cost effective solution. The laundry manager can work anytime and anywhere as this is a digital, self-explaining program dedicated to PTC. Naturally users get online support of licensed  CERCLEAN® auditors. After applying for the program the laundry manager starts creating a handbook with standard procedures for their own specific laundry business and customers, supported by e-learning on quality & (optionally) hygiene management. This is much less time-consuming than buying a generic quality management program that is not dedicated to PTC. Besides that the program is updated annually based on the latest industry innovations.

Decline & Recovery for UK Hotel Sector Impacting The PTC Sector

According to a report published on the Boutique Hotelier website recently, the PwC’s UK Hotels Forecast 2020-2021 has found that trading performance is expected to decline ‘significantly’ in 2021. However, the hospitality sector is forecasted to recover from COVID based on the assumption that there will be a vaccine by next summer.

A predicted slow recovery in corporate travel, meetings and events looks particularly depressing for London’s hospitality industry – with the inevitable effect for textile care businesses – where the overall revenue per available room is forecasted to fall significantly in 2020 to £28.72, £100 less than in 2019. Betting on a vaccine becoming available next year, overall revenues are expected to recover to £64.81 in 2021, but the suggestion is that occupancy, ADR and RevPAR will not return to 2019 levels until at least 2023.

The UK hotel sector could take four years to return to pre-pandemic levels, with hotel occupancy rates in 2021 set to remain flat at 55% across the country, new research has found.

Clint, A New Material Made From Textile Waste Left In Dryers

As part of its commitment to innovation, energy efficiency and sustainability, the Girbau company has collaborated – through its open innovation platform Girbau Lab – with Elisava – the Barcelona university Design and Engineering School. Together they have created a new material that represents a major step towards the circular economy in industrial laundry.

Similar to cardboard in form, the material known as Clint is made from the solid textile waste recovered straight from the filters of dryers. The innovative nature of this new material is the raw material itself and in the uses that could be made of it. Such as in the stationery sector and craft printing. Both partners are already looking into possible uses for this new material. Among other things, the material could replace certain plastic materials in making pen drive casings, or could be used in packaging.
