Historic Bates of London laundry saved after Covid setback

Bates of London – founded in 1886 – is a specialist in linen hire and contract laundry for hotels, health clubs and restaurants across the UK. During top periods the  company was processing over 50 million pieces of laundry a year with two processing plants and a dedicated team. The company has recently been sold to existing management after an intensive period of marketing the business at the end of last year.

The Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group has completed the sale of the business, the assets and saved all 95 jobs. Administrators Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis and Ian Yerrill of YM Business Recovery Limited were asked by the company’s directors to help overcome a long struggle with the effects of coronavirus on the hospitality industry, together with rising energy costs.

The administrators worked closely with all concerned in order to achieve the best possible outcome for all stakeholders. Bennett stated that in their opinion this enterprise with a long history deserved to survive the exceptional recent turmoil. Both external administrators stated to be very pleased to have found a buyer that was also willing to maintain the workforce in full.
