LEGO and Artist created Launderette of Dreams

In a way, London-based artist and designer Yinka Ilori has proven that in building with LEGO’s anything is possible. His installation “Launderette of Dreams has been created together with The LEGO Group. The project is part of the “Rebuild the World” campaign to honour children’s creativity and has completely converted an East London laundromat into a colourful, dynamic and  interactive playground.

The artist worked together with local children to develop the interior’s playful design into a space to bring people together. The concept of the interactive installation has been derived from his own childhood memories of visiting his local laundromat with his family. These trips to laundromat back then were re-lived by the artist and made him develop an environment that is more playful and fun. The laundry now has characteristic kaleidoscope laundry drums, LEGO mural walls and geometric hopscotch floors.,

Ilori stated that it has become a very personal project for him, since he spent a lot of time at the launderette there during his childhood dreaming of the future. The Launderette of Dreams has been created to play an important role in bringing the community and people from different cultures and backgrounds together, as well as providing an opportunity for kids to meet, play and share ideas.
