Phase 1 Sector Approach Soil contamination textile cleaning completed!
On the occasion of the completion of the current Phase 1 of the Bosatex remediation of historical soil contamination in textile cleaning, Friday March 17th Bosatex chairman Tom Goutier presented the first copy of the book ‘Sell your Plume’ to the former director-general of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Hans van der Vlist.

In about seven years, a complex problem of historical VOCl- pollution was addressed by Bosatex. Over 300 locations nationwide were examined and remediated when necessary. The book provides an overview of backgrounds and activities and its significance for the textile cleaning industry. Because of this project the industry can look forward to an optimistic future again.

Starting approach
In 2010 at the start of the project is this future was very uncertain. Textile Cleaning companies were faced with a complex problem of great magnitude, which threatened the survival of many companies. Because the polluter pays, even if you are not aware of this of and are working properly according to the rules. Netex trade association and the Ministry of Environment needed almost 23 years to come to a satisfactory solution to address and resolve the historical soil pollution. With this solution, the foundation was laid for the future development of the industry.

Textile cleaning; 3 times more environmentally friendly than washing at home
Meanwhile, because of investments in the industry businesses are 3 times more environmentally friendly than washing at home with household appliances.
By also addressing the historical soil contamination there is again plenty of room for improvement in services to consumers and business customers to contemporary needs.
Working in dry cleaning is ‘cool’ again and dry cleaners serve their clients with a quality product and easy online ordering and delivery capabilities.

The Bosatex Foundation is the coordinating entity for the remediation of historical soil contamination in the Dutch Textile Cleaning Industry.
Within the Bosatex operation eventually over 130 remediations were carried out which involve more than €40 million of investment. The necessary resources are partly coming from to the dry cleaners and partly from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. It is expected that another 2 years are needed for completion and aftercare. in order to achieve this result Bosatex worked closely with the Ministry of Infrastructure, competent authorities, contractors, engineering firms and consultants.
