Consumer Services
A lot is happening in the textile care industry, especially on the consumer side. In the last 7 years many startups have entered the laundry market with significant investments to disrupt the industry and create ‘an uber for laundry’. Regrettably many also underestimated the complexity of textile care which led to many startups going out of business again. Where traditional dry cleaners mostly focused on quality and service, this new generation cleaners emphasizes on convenience and quality of life. They try to get into the daily life of customers with apps and attractive shop designs.
At the same time the wearing habits of consumers have changed. On the one hand we’ve seen the rise of fast fashion with low quality garments that are worn just a handful of times before they go to waste. On the other hand a counter movement of the circular textile economy is coming up, leading to opportunities for us textile care providers to ensure longer lifetime to garments. This, combined with less formal dressing habits means cleaners have to evolve their service portfolio, becoming an allround service provider for the complete wardrobe at home.
