Carbios started its innovative biorecycling plant

Carbios – a French company in the field of biochemistry – is going to build a €54 billion PET bio recycling plant to be situated in Longlaville, in the Grand-Est region of France.

As the world’s first industrial-scale solution for the enzymatic depolymerisation of PET waste, the plant will have an annual processing capacity of 50,000 tons of prepared waste when operating at full capacity. The enzymatic bio recycling technology enables both PET packaging and textile waste to be fully recycled. Work is progressing on schedule with significant quantities scheduled to be delivered to customers in 2026.

The plant is expected to create 150 direct and indirect jobs in the region and is currently under construction. As part of the France 2030 plan, the company will receive grants amounting to €54 million from the French State and Grand-Est Region. This plan will provide a total of €54 billion to be invested so that companies, universities and research organizations are in a position to respond competitively to the world’s ecological and attractiveness challenges in the future. At the same time, the plan aims to promote the need of future leaders in the field of ecological transition.
