In Sweden, the Textile Service Industry Sustainability Award – a joint initiative of the Swedish Textile Service Association and Ecolab – has recently been awarded for the ninth year in a row. The award has recognized two winners who – in their own way – contribute to growing sustainability within the industry.
The first winner is entrepreneur Lars Larsson. With his company Hemrex, he has been actively working on sustainability since 2014. Through the completion of his newly built laundry in 2024, Lars has transformed a traditional dry cleaner to a laundry that uses the latest technology for advanced laundry, utilizes energy optimization and produces almost all of the electricity for the business from 450 square meters of solar panels. Apart from that, Lars is also active in various social commitment initiatives, both locally and in southern Africa.
The second winner is energy expert Christer Bäcker. Through his specialization in the energy market and in finding purchasing strategies to secure long-term good prices for electricity and gas in a volatile market, he has made it possible for Association members to achieve a stable price picture. This price stability ensures economic sustainability as well as ecological sustainability. Thus, finite and climate-impacting fossil energy can be cost-effectively replaced by renewable alternatives.
