H&M launches Green Fashion Initiative

to reduce water-, chemical- and energy consumption

Swedish retail company H&M has initiated its ‘Green Fashion Initiative’ by installing three state-of-the-art dyeing and finishing technologies at Chorka Textile, an essential supplier in Bangladesh. The project indicates a significant shift in H&M’s supply chain strategy and is aimed at drastically reducing environmental impact through technological innovation. The initiative integrates innovative technologies from Revozona (Switzerland), imogo (Sweden), and Pluvia (Turkey) into Chorka’s continuous production line.

These systems are designed to considerably reduce water-, chemical- and energy consumption. Revozona’s ozone-based fabric preparation technology cuts water consumption by 92%, chemical usage by 44%, and energy use by 49%, diminishing CO2 emissions by 92% compared to traditional methods. At the same time imogo’s Dye-Max spray dyeing technology offers an ultra-low liquor ratio of just 0.5 litres per kilo of fabric. It not only realizes substantial water and chemical savings, but also minimizes wastewater generation, with only 20 litres required for wash changeovers. Finally, Pluvia’s low-temperature washing system efficiently removes unfixed dyes, further optimizing water and energy use in the production process.

Investing in new technologies is crucial in finding scalable solutions to combat climate change.”
