In the US, The Environmental Protection Agency has recently decided to abolish the Climate Change Endangerment Finding – the law that identifies greenhouse gas pollution as a threat to human beings and the planet. For many years, this law has empowered federal and state governments to limit pollution from vehicles, power plants, and major industrial sources under the Clean Air Act.
Cancelling the law takes away these governments’ authority to restrict climate pollution as fires are roaring, storms and flooding are devastating communities, heat waves hit records, thousands of species are disappearing, and toxic air smother communities. Besides, this development sets back trillions of dollars in government and industry investment that was creating millions of green jobs. The overall conclusion can be made that this EPA decision represents a contradiction of scientific evidence and the will of many.
The EARTHDAY.ORG have stated to keep fighting this development persistently. This organisation is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 150,000 partners in over 192 countries. The organisation’s aim is to drive positive action for our planet and to broaden, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Their first action was the first Earth Day in 1970. Their mission? ‘We can stop it. It’s our Power for our Planet.’
