Although many businesses choose an external specialist company for their linen, quite a few prefer to launder in-house. In the hospitality sector for instance, many businesses consider a commercial laundry to be the best solution, but small and medium-sized independent operations often prefer looking after their own linen, uniforms and guests’ garments. Care homes, veterinary and equine practices, holiday or educational centres and even prisons, are also all seeking tailored solutions to their laundry needs and choose OPL. Two UK-based experts explained some advantages.
According to ILE (Industrial Laundry Equipment) Managing director Richard Brown, care and nursing homes have always preferred the OPL route as it enables quick and efficient washing of soiled linen, gives the control of a thermal disinfection where required and the flexibility to wash delicate items in accordance with requirements. AGS (Associated Group Services) director Mary Simons stated that many companies want flexibility. They prefer the addition of laundry machinery instead of waiting for one of the laundry collection companies to arrive.
Conclusion: An OPL solution may not suit every business, but for some operations it could work for keeping full and flexible control of laundry needs, especially when for some reason proper commercial services are not available.
