No doubt, launderers will know that pre-spotting stains during the washing process can be effective. However, they are also aware that high risk might be possible. Especially, because reagents exposed to the variety in cleaning processes, programs and detergents can result in unforeseen damage – in combination with fabrics, fibres and dyes. And for that the cleaner may be held responsible.
Fortunately, there are many products available, such as kit water-based and oil-based stain removers that are designed to absorb stains and flush out in the dry-cleaning machine. They can be used to treat many water based and oil-based stains. General pre-spotting reagents are designed to treat large areas of water based staining or ingrained soiling. Some of them can be mixed with water to improve their effect on water-based stains. Some specific reagents can be used for treating water based stains/soiling on sensitive textiles such as animal hair, silk and the cellulosics.
It may be known that cellulosic fibres and fabrics and particularly cotton linen and viscose rayon can suffer from colour loss when exposed to spotting chemicals. That is why, experts recommend that – after a colour test where necessary – stain removal on the spotting table is often the safest option.
