Technology-driven sustainability and CSR … Hospitality redefined!

Our era of transformation with increasing demands for sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), presents the hospitality industry with huge opportunities to reformulate its operational and strategic frameworks. It goes without saying that this development needs a solid vision for the integration of advanced technologies. In that respect, various organisations have already made steps to support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and CSR objectives.  Some examples:

Marriott International has developed a comprehensive platform for technology in various ways: energy-efficient systems in buildings, intelligent room technologies for reducing energy and water usage, and enhancing guest engagement in sustainability practices. Hilton developed a framework that enables properties to identify areas for improvement and implement specific projects for environmental footprint reduction. IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has implemented an online program that allows hotels to track, measure, and report on carbon footprint and utility consumption. Accor’s program focuses on food and beverage sustainability, reducing energy as well as water consumption, and promoting biodiversity.

Fortunately, many other hotels have started to work on enhancement of sustainability and social responsibility through the integration of technology into their CSR and ESG initiatives. Their digital tools and platforms not only monitor and reduce environmental impact, but also enable positive interaction with guests and employees on sustainability issues.
