Despite scientific proof, people seem to develop many – sometimes foolish – beliefs not to save the planet we all depend on. However, their finances will tell them otherwise, since climate change is making life more expensive. How? Beware and shiver….
1. Energy bills worldwide are increasing by the war in Ukraine and rising energy demand from AI data centres, as well as newly introduced tariffs to deal with climate-related worries such as extreme heat, storms, and aging infrastructure. The growing demand clashes with limited supply and emphasizes the urgent need to modernize grids and invest in resilient, sustainable energy sources.
2. Home insurance has become more expensive. In the U.S. prices have gone up by more than 30%, partly by the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters. Australia, Japan, and parts of Europe also experience climate-driven insurance increases.
3. Extreme weather events – e.g. flooding, storms and extreme heat – make it more difficult to grow crops and fruits, leading to unpredictable and higher prices for many types of food. Low-income families will buy cheaper, less nutritious food, causing more health problems -such as heart disease, diabetes, and mental health conditions.
5. Oil is both unsustainable and non-renewable. Because dependence on oil remains high, shrinking supplies eventually push prices upward. The longer we rely on oil without investing in alternative energy sources, the more frequent and severe disruptions will become.
6. Climate change increases drought in many parts of the world, leading not only to water contamination but also to higher prices and will also impact food production and again harm human health.
This scary information should induce you to make pro-planet choices. Persons and companies could support their government to transition to renewable energy and help to secure a better and more affordable future for us all. More info on https://www.earthday.org/
