Sustainability is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, new legislative initiatives, regulatory changes, and numerous regulations are making it ever more difficult to keep track of everything. In Germany, the “Textile Laundry Sustainability” ( TexSus ) project is developing an easy- to-use sustainability toolkit for small and medium-sized enterprises in the textile service industry. The project enables to address individual sustainability issues in a targeted manner as well as to build a complete sustainability management system that can be integrated into existing quality or environmental management systems.
TexSus is backed by the German Textile Cleaning Association , the Landshut University of Applied Sciences and the management consultancy Intrasys. As part of a project funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation ( DBU ), new guidelines for textile services were published at the end of 2025. The project includes five guides: “Step by step towards a sustainable supply chain”, “Energy management system”, “Waste balance and analysis options”, “Sustainability reporting” and”Strategic Sustainability Management System”. The guides are aimed at helping implement a sustainable supply chain and are now available free of charge.
In the guides a theoretical section first explains the fundamentals of a system, followed by step-by-step instructions for practical implementation in everyday business. In the coming months, the project will create more guidelines and sample documents. In addition, the guidelines will be made available as video tutorials on the online learning platform ” E-Washboard ” to present their content even more clearly.
