Dutch King Willem Alexander festively opened Nedlin’s new sustainable laundry on Thursday, September 21. The family business services customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in the healthcare, catering and industry sectors. Together with more than four hundred guests, the company presented 70 years of entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability. Recent developments in the sector were discussed with representatives of the Dutch and Belgian healthcare sectors. After the opening, the King and the guests were personally guided through the new laundry by Nedlin employees.
The new laundry is located in Elsloo, has a floor area of 19,000 m2, and claims to be the most sustainable laundry in Europe and unique in its kind in terms of degree of innovation. Stef de Win (director/owner Nedlin): “A laundry like this has never been built before. We have researched and reinvented every part of the process. That ambition took a lot of everyone who worked on it. This royal opening feels like a crowning achievement.”
70 years of innovation and sustainability
Luuk de Win (director/owner Nedlin): “We actually focused on reinventing ourselves for 70 years. We want to get better at what we do every day. Washing is a labor-intensive process that also requires a lot of water and energy. Continuously improving and organizing this process in a smarter way, is a task that never stops.” Andrea Meuwissen, commercial director of Nedlin Healthcare, adds: “We only see the pressure on healthcare increasing. Aging society, rising healthcare costs, CO2 savings and staff shortages. It is therefore crucial that our textile care processes run smoothly. By organizing our processes as efficiently as possible, we contribute to keeping healthcare affordable in the long term.”
Maximum environmental benefit
Stef: “A laundry like ours is above all a very large, smart logistics operation.
A lot has been automated and that has changed the work. It has become cleaner, lighter and safer. And at the same time more challenging. We have invested in our own waste water purification system, allowing us to fully reuse all process water. We achieve a 45% CO2 reduction, use energy smartly and thus achieve maximum environmental benefits. By setting up a digital warehouse, the iCollector, demand is managed even better and delivery reliability can be better guaranteed.” The new laundry is BREEAM outstanding certified. Nedlin recently also received a B Corp certification for its sustainable performance.
