Social impact organisations United Repair Centre, Fashion-Enter and outdoor clothing brand Patagonia have recently opened a United Repair Centre (URC) in London following its success in the Netherlands. Amsterdam- based United Repair Centre intends to make it easier for clothing brands and consumers to join the repair movement.
URC London offers an opportunity for clothing brands to take part in the collective objective of promoting circularity. At the same time, they will employ people struggling to find employment, including those with refugee backgrounds and train them in the art of high-quality clothing repairs to both promote responsible consumption and aid marginalised communities. Garment production company, Fashion-Enter will host URC London within its existing facility and oversee the technical repair training of the team.
This collaboration is also expected to prevent potential layoffs at Fashion-Enter due to key retailers moving production to cheaper facilities. Consequently, it will also provide a gateway to the circular economy.
