This year (2023) is a memorable year for the ‘Gütegemeinschaft sachgemäße Wäschepflege e. V.‘ (Quality Association for Laundry Care) in Germany. First of all, the association can celebrate its 70 years of holding the RAL quality mark and at the same time they can commemorate their 85th anniversary.
Dr Timo Hammer – the Association’s Managing Director – explains that the quality mark for good washing was officially launched in 1938. The launch was a result of a “for proper washing” ambition initiated by laundry operator Willy Loecher from Cologne some years earlier. According to Timo Hammer, the RAL quality mark for proper laundry care has become the equivalent for special quality, quality assurance and consumer protection.
