The German Textile Cleaning Association (DTV) has again announced a high in costs for the country’s textile care industry. The consequences of the pandemic, war in Ukraine, an expansive monetary policy and disrupted supply chains led to very high price and cost increases for the country’s economy and society. The cost index for the textile service rose from 112 points at the end of 2021 to 131 points at the end of 2022 – the highest increase since the cost index was introduced.
Energy prices and costs have remained an unstable area in the cost landscape of laundries and textile services for years now. In the period January to October 2022, costs rose 95 index points to a maximum of 215. At that point, energy was more than twice as expensive as in 2015. According to DTV, the government’s aid packages for consumers and industry have not been included in the indices, since they will be effective as from 2023.
According to the assessment of the DTV, a short-term recovery of the cost situation is not to be expected. Inflation will remain a problem in 2023, but is expected to decline slowly. In general, the current situation has an impact on interest rates. According to the DTV, in that respect loans for laundries and textile services will also become more expensive than ever before.
