As part of the PTC Strategy Study – Roadmap to 2050, CINET invited esteemed professionals worldwide to share their views and visions on the current and future perspectives of the industry. This week an exclusive interview with Mr. Anup Poddar.

1. Can you please share with us your current position/job and profile of the organization you work for?

I am the Managing Director of BEEPEE Group, an integrated textile care and linen solutions organization headquartered in India. Our group operates across luxury garment care, hospitality and institutional laundry, healthcare and pharma textile care, as well as global linen manufacturing and supply. We operate primarily across western India, especially Mumbai and Gujarat, while exporting hospitality and healthcare linen worldwide.


2. In which countries and market sectors of Professional Textile Care did you work and did you gained experiences?

Our experience spans India’s hospitality, luxury retail garment care, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and institutional laundry sectors. Through ICP Linen Pvt Ltd., we export to global markets including the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia, giving us a comprehensive understanding of textile lifecycle management across geographies.


3. Could you please describe the most important characteristics and trends of the current PTC markets in terms of customer/market demand characteristics and trends?

In India, the professional textile care industry is rapidly evolving. Key trends include:

  • Increasing outsourcing by hotels and hospitals
  • Rising premium garment care demand in metro cities
  • Growing hygiene and compliance standards
  • Water and energy efficiency pressures
  • Shift toward centralized large-scale laundries
  • Digital integration and tracking expectations
  • Export growth in hospitality linen

Customers now prioritize reliability, hygiene assurance, sustainability and service consistency over basic washing services.


4. What do you see as the most important success factors for today’s PTC companies?

  • Operational efficiency and scale
  • Technology adoption and automation
  • Sustainability and resource optimization

5. What are your organization objectives and when would you consider your organization to be successful?

Our goal is to build a fully integrated textile care ecosystem across services and manufacturing. Success for us means becoming a leading textile care and linen solutions provider from India with strong sustainability benchmarks, technology-enabled operations and global partnerships.


6. What do you consider the most important future demands of clients in PTC markets?

Clients will increasingly demand:

  • Transparency and hygiene assurance
  • Sustainability reporting
  • Digital tracking of textiles
  • Faster turnaround times
  • Integrated supply and service solutions
  • Cost efficiency with quality consistency

7. What are key issues for the PTC companies to fulfill future demands of clients and PTC markets?

  • Labor availability and training
  • Rising utility costs
  • Capital investments for technology
  • Environmental regulations
  • Real estate constraints in urban areas
  • Need for skilled workforce

8. How important is sustainability / circularity for your current business performance and what do you do to improve your performance as an organization?

Sustainability is critical for our operations. We are investing in water recycling, energy-efficient equipment, chemical optimization and textile life extension. Sustainability is both an environmental responsibility and a commercial necessity.


9. Do you see sustainability as an important driver for (new) business or as a factor for saving costs?

Sustainability acts both as a cost-saving mechanism and a key driver for business growth, particularly for global clients who demand ESG-aligned partners.


10. Do you see technical innovation as a key factor to enhance your business performance, and what technologies are essential to provide sustainable and profitable PTC services in the future?

Key technologies shaping the future include automation, RFID tracking, water recycling systems, heat recovery, AI-driven process optimization and digital customer platforms.


11. What do you see as the most important innovations of the (near) future and how do you believe these innovations will change the way the industry operates?

Future innovations will include smart textile tracking, automated mega facilities, data-driven operations and integrated textile lifecycle management.


12. According to many publications, a transformation of the PTC industry towards more customer and IT driven processing, is seen as essential to be successful in the future. What is your policy to adapt your business/service model to changing market demands?

We are integrating digital interfaces, centralized process control and predictive logistics into our operations to align with future market demands.


13. We have seen an enormous increase in scale of operation of PTC companies. Do you see there will be attractive opportunities also for the more smaller companies and what is needed for small companies to be successful?

Niche positioning, specialization and high-quality service will allow smaller companies to remain competitive alongside large-scale operators.


14. How do you feel the PTC industry can take more market share in the markets of textile cleaning, compared to domestic washing?

Professional textile care must emphasize hygiene, convenience, textile longevity and sustainability benefits to gain share from domestic washing.


15. What do you see as major opportunities for the professional laundry and cleaning industry for the longer term future?

  • Healthcare and hygiene textiles
  • Hospitality outsourcing
  • Linen rental and lifecycle management
  • Sustainable textile processing
  • Technology-driven service models
  • Export growth from India

16. What do you see as major threats for the PTC industry in the coming years?

  • Rising costs
  • Fragmented industry structure

17. What would you say industry (inter-)national associations should do to support the PTC industry professionally, now and in the future?

Industry associations should promote technology adoption, sustainability standards, training, global networking and policy advocacy.


18. What is your vision on the future perspective of the industry?

The industry will evolve into a technology-driven, sustainability-focused and highly integrated ecosystem. India will play a significant role as both a service and manufacturing hub.


19. What is your key-message to your professional PTC colleagues for now and in the future?

The industry must embrace technology, sustainability and collaboration. The future belongs to organizations that innovate and adapt to changing global expectations.


Anup Poddar is the Managing Director of the BEEPEE Group, an integrated textile care and linen solutions organization headquartered in India with a growing global footprint. With over three decades of experience in the professional textile care industry, he has been instrumental in transforming the group into a multi-vertical enterprise spanning luxury garment care, industrial laundry, healthcare textile hygiene and global hospitality linen manufacturing.

 Having entered the business at the age of 16, Anup has led the development of large-scale, technology-driven and sustainability-focused textile care infrastructure across India. Under his leadership, group facilities have received global recognition, including the prestigious “Best Laundry in the World” award at the CINET Global Best Practices Awards in Frankfurt (2024). In 2022, the group’s Anshishi facility was awarded “Second Best Laundry in the World” and received the Specialist Award at the Global Best Practices Awards in Milan.

 Through Beepee Puretex, he helped pioneer the organized linen rental and outsourced laundry model for India’s hospitality sector, while ICP Linen Pvt. Ltd. supplies high-quality textiles to hotels, hospitals, airlines and cruise operators worldwide. The group’s luxury garment care brand, The Laundry Concierge, represents a new generation of premium textile care services in urban markets. The Intensive Clothing Care Unit (ICCU) continues to be recognized for its scale, sustainability and technical innovation.

 Anup Poddar plays a highly active role in advancing circular textiles, textile recycling and sustainability initiatives across the industry. He is deeply committed to building closed-loop textile systems, reducing water and energy consumption and integrating responsible manufacturing with professional textile care services.

 He serves as Vice President of CINET (Netherlands), Vice President of the Dry Cleaners and Launderers Association of India, and is a Special Invitee to the National Sports Club of India.

 Beyond business, he is deeply engaged in education and social impact. He serves on the board of ABVM Jatiya Kosh, supporting Juggilal Poddar Academy, a 2,000-student school, and GD Jalan College of Commerce, Arts & Science, serving over 1,400 students. Through these institutions and allied initiatives, he supports education grants, widow remarriage assistance and medical support for underprivileged families across India, with annual social spending of approximately INR 40 million.

He is widely recognized for his forward-looking vision centred on sustainability, automation, circular textile systems and positioning India as a global hub for modern textile care and linen lifecycle management.
