OTA Insight – a leading cloud-based data intelligence platform for the hospitality industry – recently released its mid-year report on the state of global hotel pricing. Key findings of the report show continuing consumer spending on travel regardless of decreasing household budgets and unfavourable economic conditions.
It also shows a revival of the Average Daily Rate (ADR) for the global hotel industry, with room prices exceeding pre-pandemic levels in Europe and above 2019 levels in North America. Some other findings include:
- Short-term rentals in Europe have shown a consistent growth rate in 2023. Southern European destinations experience high room rate growth in H2 2023, indicating a strong summer season.
- The Asia market has recovered strongly with prices 19% higher in the second half of 2023 compared to H2 2022 and popular tourist destinations are witnessing a revival.
- Room prices in North America remain above pre-pandemic levels, but the region shows signs of slowing growth potentially due to rapidly increasing interest rates and declining real incomes.
Although global travel and tourism remain strong, economic factors could present challenges in 2024 that may lead to a moderation in travel spend and a slower rate of price increases in the hotel industry.
