With designer Marie Teike in charge, Remake Sthlm – Stockholm City Mission’s clothing brand – has launched an exclusive clothing collection created out of materials from Fristads’ used work clothes.
Remake Sthlm was founded in 2002 and has a constant focus on finding a way to create fashion without damaging the environment or abusing anyone working with it. Their collections are based on materials donated to Stockholm’s Stadsmission – a 150-year-old Swedish private institution that provides homeless shelters. According to Teike, it has been both important and inspiring to have the opportunity to use produced garments directly from the supplier.
The material from Fristads had already been produced to be sustainable from the start. Developing it further from function to fashion has felt innovative and also proves the impact of adequate professional textile cleaning. According to Teike, the collection is based on investigative work that resulted in a number of garments that can now be integrated into the production. Some garments will be sold in multiple copies, while others are unique one-off pieces. The collection will be sold for a limited period at Stockholm City Mission’s store and also via Remake Sthlm’s digital channels.
