Insight in the role of commercial laundries

To better understand the complexity of local industry, Tan Dhesi – MP in the UK for Slough – recently paid a visit to the local CLEAN operation. Mr Dhesi was impressed with the laundry facility regarding both scale and energy efficiency. He also met and spoke to production team members and some of the 250 people who work at the factory.

The visit not only emphasized the factory’s role in job creation and economic stability within the community, but also the importance of the commercial laundry industry to key sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, pharmaceutical and food. Discussions during the visit underlined the critical role the UK government can play in supporting the textile services industry more widely through helpful policies and investments.

Although it has become clear that laundry services reinforce a country’s economy, it is a vital yet often overlooked sector. The laundry service in the UK for instance, washes over 53 million pieces of linen and clothing every week to provide the workforce with clean uniforms and guarantee a comfortable night’s sleep outside the home. General conclusion: textile services play a vital role behind almost every sector of a country’s economy!
