In southwestern Sweden, gas makes up for about 20 percent of the energy mix. Moreover, it plays a decisive role in important industrial processes for many companies. The gas crisis affects a variety of industries, such as breweries, greenhouses, restaurants, laundries and transport. That is why, representatives from the Swedish business world have pleaded that companies that depend on gas also need to be protected from sharp price increases.
The Swedish industry has already made major investments to switch from oil to biogas. It makes up for about 35 percent of the gas used. But with today’s rising gas prices, the industry risks being penalized for the changeover that has already been carried out. Biogas is a gas that Sweden itself can participate in and produce. It also has a positive impact on the climate since it is produced by using residual products from agriculture and sewage, among other things.
The entrepreneurs state that if the policy now shows the power to act, through high-cost protection for gas users too, thus creating the conditions for the future development of biogas in particular, Swedish companies are prepared to make the necessary investments. “We are pushing for the green transition and believe that there is a way out of the energy crisis”.
