For months the Dutch laundries and dry cleaners have been lobbying regarding the extreme cost increased of energy. Finally, Hesther Slijkhuis of Wasserij Barth Slijkhuis (NL) could tell her story at Dutch RTL Nieuws television. National newspaper “De Volkskrant” wrote about the biggest Dutch Healthcare Laundry CleanLease. Last week, 22 September, the lobby reached the national media again. The NOS Journaal Dutch TV made recordings at CleanLease and interviewed director Theo Lantinga and Arthur Linssen of FTN. This was broadcasted the same day. Meanwhile also the Dutch Parliament raised questions about this subject.
Lantinga explained the huge increase of energy costs and made it clear that this cannot be compensated by the laundries any more without being able to raise sales prices. Multi-year contracts offer insufficient options to pass on these kinds of unforeseen cost increases. The Dutch National NZA index limits increases of prices. Moreover, the budgets of the healthcare institutions are very limited.
