Breakthrough for blended fibre recycling

After six years of research within textile recycling, Mistra Future Fashion has revealed a breakthrough in the recycling of blended fibres. Their new process, called Blend Re:wind, enables the chemical recycling of polyester/cotton blends and marks an important milestone in the transition towards a circular fashion industry.

Mistra Future Fashion is a Swedish organisation and research programme that focuses on how to turn today’s fashion industry and consumer habits toward sustainable fashion and behaviour. Guided by the principles of the circular economy model, the programme operates cross-disciplinary and involves over 50 partners from the fashion industry. The Blend Re:wind project was led by Dr Hanna de la Motte: “There are many brilliant recycling innovations in progress globally at the moment, which are highly needed for successful future recycling systems. Different processes will most probably be needed and we hope that Blend Re:Wind is one of these on the global market in the future.”
