‘Design-Out’ Waste was the ISPO Munich 2020 Motto!

At the 2020 ISPO tradeshow in Munich at the Messe München exhibition grounds, more than 2,800 exhibitors recently presented the latest sports products and trends from segments such as Snowsports, Outdoor, Health & Fitness, Urban and Teamsports. During the event visitors and exhibitors could experience innovative impulses, lucrative contacts and there were lots of new products to see.

At this year’s show, the sports and outdoor industry declared war on waste, whether it is single use plastics, production or post-consumer textile waste. A wide variety of materials, technologies, products, initiatives and collaborations proved that the industry is taking its responsibility for rethinking how to make, consume and dispose of sports and outdoor products.

It was encouraging to see that industry members were united in their challenge to reduce waste through material, design and business model innovation. For that reasen, the industry intends to assemble textile mills, designers, garment manufacturers and recycling technology experts in order to work together on developing new ways of doing things. As stated, they intend to ‘design out’ waste entirely. The wear2wear collaborative platform, which developed a recycled and recyclable rEvolution Hybrid jacket,  already is a great example of such a collaborative approach.
