Ecolab’s Claim against Candida Auris fungus Appoved by U.S. EPA

Ecolab Inc. has recently received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval for its OxyCide™ Daily Disinfectant Cleaner Claim against Candida auris (C. auris), an emerging fungal pathogen that presents a serious global health threat.

Healthcare facilities in several countries have reported that this type of yeast has been causing severe illness in hospitalized patients. In some patients, the fungus may enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, causing serious invasive infections which are difficult to treat as the fungus often does not respond to commonly used antifungal drugs. C. auris  can spread through sick patients as well as on contaminated surfaces and equipment. It has been cultured from locations in patient rooms, such as bedside tables and bedrails, as well as locations further away from the patient. It has also been identified on mobile equipment, such as blood pressure cuffs and ultrasound machines.

The claim against C. auris is reported currently to be reviewed  by other state agencies, including the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR).
