German Drugstore enters the Professional Textile Care Market

Drugstore DM in Germany has discovered the Professional Textile Care industry as a new business model. The company is currently testing the new offer in Munich and Essen, where customers can hand in dirty laundry. The clothing is to be sent to the laundry as a package. The laundry is then washed, cleaned and ironed before it is sent back to the customer-selected DM-store or a desired address within three working days.

For this new offering, the company has entered into a cooperation with Persil. Persil Service has been offering  online laundry services since 2015, when its mother company – The Henkel Group – teamed up with cleaning company Stichweh and parcel service DHL. The idea was that customers could send their dirty laundry by post. In this new service, the washing is carried out by a textile care company in Hannover that is not explicitly mentioned. Noteworthy is that the dirty laundry is transported across Germany and back again, which is almost 700 kilometres from Munich to Hanover.

However, according to DM there is no anti-climate effect. The company claims that it always takes ecological aspects into account in new offers and services. For this initiative the company uses GoGreen – an offer from the parcel service provider DHL. This service is claimed to enable climate-neutral parcel delivery.
