According to industry experts in the US, there are six elements that a (new) laundromat business should have to attract and keep its customers. They are:
- Parking – If parking space is too small with respect to the size of a store, doing business on busy days will be difficult.
- Equipment mix – Adequate quantity and size of washers and dryers is needed to satisfy the variety of laundry loads one plans to accommodate.
- Attendants – As staff are the face of a store, they should be clean and neatly dressed. But also courteous, respectful and helpful at all time. Never have them argue with a customer and business owners should be informed of customers’ feedback.
- Refunds – Customer refunds should be given out as soon as possible. The customer will get the feeling that a business owner stands behind his business and his service.
- Cleanliness and maintenance – Customers want a clean laundromat and solidly working equipment. Besides, a dirty store may well be on its way out of business.
- Lighting – Laundry customers prefer bright, well-lit stores and their parking lots to give them a feeling of safety and security.
If you keep these six elements in mind, attracting and retaining customers should be ‘a piece of cake’.
