Century Linen & Uniform and Up To Date Laundry have joined the Healthcare Linen Alliance

New industrial laundry facility opens in Baltimore

Up To Date Laundry, a Baltimore-based commercial laundry operation that cleans sheets, doctors’ scrubs and other linens for many of the area’s major health care systems, celebrated the opening of a new facility that doubles its capacity in Hollander Business Park. The new East Baltimore facility gives Up To Date Laundry an additional 72 million pounds of processing capacity and the company plans to add 400 new jobs once it’s completely built out in five years.

“Today is an exciting day for myself, Up To Date Laundry and the City of Baltimore,” said Nancy Stair-Carter, Up To Date’s owner and CEO, in a statement. “I am proud to have been able to expand our footprint in this city that I love and was very near and dear to my father’s heart.” Founded in 1946 to provide laundry services to ships visiting the port of Baltimore, Up To Date eventually transitioned to serving the health care industry, processing 62 million pounds of healthcare linen each year.

This projects specifically supports Johns Hopkins Health System and helps it achieve the goals of its HopkinsLocal initiative designed to promote growth and employment in Baltimore.
