Productivity rises due to digitisation

With industry 4.0 technology, productivity gains of around EUR 7.9bn can be achieved. This is evident from the latest VDI survey on the “modernization of production”. The survey analysed the benefits of seven “competence technologies” in 3 fields

Digital technologies are indispensable to industrial production, according to VDI. From the point of view of the association, digital technologies strengthen both the competitiveness and added value. According to the study, digitisation offers significant potential.

Field I: Digital management systems

  1. PPS system – Digital production planning and control system
  2. PLM Systems – Product Lifecycle Management Systems

Field II: Wireless man-machine communication

  1. Mobile digital visualisation in the workplace
  2. Mobile operation and programming of machines and equipment

Field III: Networked systems, or CPS-related processes

  1. Digital exchange of planning data with suppliers and customers [Supply Chain]
  2. Techniques for automation and control of production logistics
  3. Real-time production control systems

“If all industrial companies in Germany were to use at least one digitisation technology, we would achieve productivity increases of about € 7.9 billion,” VDI President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Ungeheuer concludes.
