Textile Manufacturer MGC Strengthens Position in European Market

Melchior Textil from Germany has been acquired by MGC – Acabamentos Têxteis – their equipment partner for many years. The goal is a stronger position in the European market. European textile manufacturer MGC was founded in 2017 as a joint venture between the British fabric manufacturer  Carrington Textiles and the Portuguese textile finishing company TMG – Acabamentos Têxteis .

The aim of the recent takeover is to strengthen the market position of all companies participating in the new network in the European market, but most of all in the DACH region and in Central Europe. The merger is to provide advantages for both companies and their customers.

According to a press release, the new group structure offers customers new opportunities for innovation.  The new organisation will be based on a larger selection of fabrics and the particular strengths of the individual ranges of the two textile specialists.  Both companies continue to operate independently on the market and are supported by MGC in their business activities. MGC refines 18 million linear meters of fabric in Portugal every year. Together with Carrington’s current production capacity in Europe of 32 million meters, this corresponds to a production volume of 50 million meters per year.
